Developing Consistency

Develop ConsistencyBeing consistent is defined as displaying predictable and reliable behaviors in meeting goals. The first step should be the realistic evaluation of the likelihood of meeting the goals we set—in other words, it would be self-defeating to attempt goals which we realistically have little chance of meeting based on many factors – time frames, ability, life circumstances, lifestyles, lack of motivation, and lack of personal valuation of rewards.

Consistency requires repeatedly valuing goal achievement enough to develop the necessary discipline of performance to be successful. Repeatedly achieving success meeting goals develops stability and predictability of behaviors.

Therefore, making goals manageable is the first step in creating consistency of performance. If goals are not being met, examine the reasons for failure. Perhaps striving for perfection is the cause of self-defeating behavior. Consistency is not compatible with perfection. Determine what is “negotiable” in task performance; the end result is the most important factor.

Developing motivation to perform consistently is based in personal value systems. The goal itself must be valuable enough to encourage repeated efforts to achieve it – that is, the reward must be great enough to inspire discipline in performance. The reward may be positive or negative in nature. The avoidance of a negative outcome may be motivational in itself; for instance, meeting deadlines for work projects avoids the negative outcome of compromising one’s job.

Consistent performance is a measurable outcome of repeatedly achieving goals. Here’s a breakdown of the steps to take for success in meeting goals and staying consistent:

  • Set expectations and hold yourself accountable.
  • Avoid the self-defeating expectation of perfection.
  • Set attainable goals and measure progress toward meeting them.
  • Strive to make measurable progress continually.
  • Keep a positive attitude towards consistently attaining goals and subsequent rewards.
  • Celebrate successes with each goal met to reinforce motivation in achieving future goals with consistent job performance.

Working from Home

Office medOne of many great advantages in real estate assistance is the opportunity it affords to work from home. Many real estate assistants enjoy the independence and autonomy of the virtual work environment. More and more employers recognize its advantages to themselves and their employees in increased productivity and decreased expense, and a successful transition is easy to make for most. Here are a few tips to help make the transition to the virtual work environment go smoothly.

So let’s examine the number one most important aspect of working outside the office – employer expectations. For those who are transitioning in the same job, will the requirements be the same? Will support be the same? What about equipment, supplies?  It is imperative to establish a thorough understanding of these aspects before transition. IT support is important, and the contractor may have to gain independence in some computer areas by enrolling in classes, for instance, or establishing contacts through computer companies for support. Be able to outfit your home office with the same supplies you use in the formal work place. An understanding of your responsibilities is imperative.

Set up a separate and dedicated area in the home as office. Choose one that affords the least distraction, be it from environment, to family and friends, and establish boundaries. Just because you’re are at home does not mean you are always available. Establish a daily routine, possibly patterned closely to your former work routine. Take breaks as always; resist the temptation to be available to address emails and take phone calls any time and any day. Begin and quit working at established times and maintain this structure.

Set measureable goals for productivity, find what works best for your own personal work habits and through interaction with other telecommuters. Stay connected to the office by attending meetings and maintaining social relationships with co-workers through phone calls and social get-togethers. Continue networking to boost your career contacts. Continue to work closely with your office supervisor and co-workers. Eventually establish your own best work-style. Document your productivity and time as structured by your employer, as well as in your own personal records, and provide written documentation of your accomplishments to your supervisor regularly. Do not depend on company evaluations alone.

There will be requirements that you must meet as an independent contractor, such as taxes, licenses, and perhaps permits. The IRS has information available on its site under “Self-Employed Individual Tax Center”. Plan to increase insurance and retirement savings, since they will now be your own responsibility instead of your employer’s. Maintain your technical skills.

Now, enjoy your new work and life-style. Continue to develop self-discipline, and remember, to be successfully employed at home, always meet and exceed employers’ expectations.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or need a little help focusing on your goals, please contact me and let’s schedule a complimentary 20 minute coaching session to see how we can, together, get you back on the right track.

Realizing Your True Passion

MapIt’s interesting to meet people who seem to really love their careers, since we would all like to spend our working time at what we enjoy doing. However, most all of us have to making a living. Is there any way to reconcile the two? Is it really possible to realize what your true interests are in a career, other than making money, or is it all just being lucky?

Well, according to those who have achieved the goal of pursuing their passion in their career that is exactly one of the first steps – being curious. How did they go about finding their passion? How does one begin to determine what their true passion is and turn it into a living? One of the tips is to think back to the things you enjoyed most as a child. An examination of the traits that defined you as a child may be valuable in self-examination now. We are, at the central core of ourselves, still the same person. We may gain some insight into what defines us as adults by remembering what we enjoyed most as children.

While we must make a living, perhaps we should grant ourselves some leeway beyond just making money in our choice of careers. For some people, that is their passion, regardless of the job. We devote a large part of our lives to work; perhaps it is possible to actually enjoy that time through greater control of our lives and where we spend most of it. Advantages might include working at home, for instance, or flex time. Our curiosity may lead us to focus on different priorities.

Another aspect to consider is avoiding artificial limitations, such as perceived lack of abilities or education. We each have unique abilities to apply to our livelihoods the same way we employ them in everyday life. Focusing more on what we personally are very good at gives us some good insight. We enjoy doing things we are good at. Discover those individual attributes you possess and consider how to incorporate them into a career.

As the experts advise, after a time, we must stop talking and act. When you realize your current career is not working, begin taking steps to leave it. Perhaps start a new line of study incorporating your unique attributes and your passion while planning your exit. Develop a plan that affords you more satisfaction with your work-style and life balance while pursuing your passion.

Imagine a career so satisfying that you must remind yourself to stop working at the end of the day, and that you think about and look forward to in your down-time! You have realized your passion.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or need a little help focusing on your goals, please contact me and let’s schedule a complimentary 20 minute coaching session to see how we can, together, get you back on the right track.

Self Confidence

Sunlit Woman smallLet’s face it, life requires a lot from us. Most of what we do daily, we have to do. Some of it is self-reinforcing; that is, we know we do it well, or at least well enough to get by. It is easy to get caught up in the idea that we don’t have much choice about what we do in day-to-day life. As responsible adults, we devote a lot of ourselves to others and often we don’t spend much time thinking about it.

But ask yourself this—what would happen to your life and those you’re close to if you didn’t do the things you do every day? Do you ever stop to consider the true value of you?

Everyone works from one of two positions. You either work to maintain what you have, or you strive to have more. Life is a heavy load, and it can cause us to focus on the status quo, and our dreams begin to fade a little. But there’s always that one thing in the back of your heart and mind that won’t entirely go away. That house? That job? More time? More money for the family?

You already maintain a job, you have food, a roof over your head, transportation; you provide for your family, you are already successful! No arguments with yourself about how you can’t do it, you’re not qualified, you’re not good enough, because you’ve already done it and you really should dwell more on that success.

  • Stay positive, you have every reason to be.
  • No comparisons to others because they have absolutely no relation to you.
  • You know your victories, celebrate them.
  • Identify your strengths and be proud.
  • Build on your successes.
  • Confront the fears that hold you back; be patient with yourself.
  • Set goals, take risks; they’re not great risks because you already know your strengths and your limitations.
  • Practice self-reinforcement and then add to your skills.

Each day has the same number of hours. The only difference is how you spend them. Each job has certain requirements. The only difference is your desire and ability to do them – and the self-confidence to try.

If you are feeling that lack of confidence, please contact me and let’s schedule a complimentary 20 minute coaching session to see how we can, together, get you back on the right track.

As Henry Ford said, “Those who believe they can do something and those who believe they can’t are both correct”.

Social Networking – Where You Need To Be NOW

All the buzz among today’s conversations is social networking. Are you constantly being asked “What is your Twitter profile?, What is the link to your Facebook profile? Are you on LinkedIn?” You might answer yes to all these questions, but deep down thinking “I don’t have a clue.”

Everywhere you turn you are seeing the new term “Social Marketing Expert“, but is anyone really an expert? The Social Networking phenomena is just now catching on and those like me who have been at it for months I suppose can be called the experts, but the question you should be asking is “What makes you a Social Marketing Expert?” “What can you do to help me get to the next level?”

The first thing you need to understand is by just setting up an account and a creating a profile does not do all that much for you. Sure, your on the network, but unless you really get involved it does not all that much for you in the way of search engine optimization, exposure, etc.

This is where you need someone that understands how to work each network for you and your business.

As a virtual assistant specializing in real estate assistance I have seen this new way of marketing work, but only if it is done correctly. It can be a very time consuming task if you don’t know what you are doing, so you have to research each network to see how it will benefit you and what steps you should take to make that happen.

Because I am a virtual assistant my job is to stay on the leading edge of technology. As part of my services I offer today’s business owner the help they need in setting up their social marketing action plan and making sure it is implemented to benefit you and the industry you work with.

If I may plug my services here – I think it is vital to your business to get on board with social networking even if you don’t “get it” just yet. This is where I will help you and save you the trouble learning what I already know. Save time by having Kim Hughes & Company put in the forefront with your peers, industry leaders, clients, and more.

You can view my profiles on each one of the social networks in the left column to see I do know what I am doing and I do know how to help you.

So, get on the social networks today! My in-depth action plan is one that I have spent hours putting together and it is exclusively for my clients and know that your return on investment is unbelievable.
