Why Social Media Fails for Real Estate Agents (And How to Fix It) 

Let’s be honest — social media can feel like a time-sucking black hole. You post a new listing, share a motivational quote, maybe throw in a market stat… and crickets. No leads. No engagement. No results. 

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. 
 
The good news? Social media isn’t broken. But your strategy might be — and that’s fixable. In this post, let’s talk about the biggest mistakes real estate agents make on social, and more importantly, how to turn it around. 

Mistake #1: Only Posting Listings 

If your feed looks like a walking MLS sheet, you’re doing yourself a disservice. People don’t log on to social media to be sold to — they log on to connect. 
 
Fix it: Start showing your face. Share behind-the-scenes videos, local business spotlights, homebuyer tips, or what your day really looks like. Real estate is a relationship business. So let people get to know *you*. 

Mistake #2: Inconsistency 

You post three times this week, then nothing for two weeks. Then a rush of open house flyers, then silence again. 
 
Fix it: Consistency is king. You don’t need to post every day, but you do need a plan. Batch your content. Use tools like Canva or Metricool. Or better yet — delegate it. 

Mistake #3: Zero Engagement 

If you’re not responding to comments, liking other people’s posts, or engaging in DMs, you’re missing the point. Social media is meant to be *social.* 
 
Fix it: Spend 10 minutes a day engaging with others in your community or niche. It’s free marketing that builds trust and visibility. 

Mistake #4: No Call to Action (CTA) 

Your post says “Just Listed!” but… now what? People scroll past because there’s no direction. 
 
Fix it: Always include a CTA. Ask a question. Invite them to a buyer seminar. Offer a home valuation. Even a simple “Message me for details” makes a difference. 

Mistake #5: Not Using Video 

Video is the #1 way to build trust fast. Yet most agents avoid it because they’re nervous or unsure what to say. 
 
Fix it: Start small. Film a 30-second tip, market update, or walk-through. Be real. Be helpful. You don’t need to be polished — you just need to be present.
